THE SURGEONS’ TABLES
Meet Our Editors
Founded by surgeons M.J. Kim, MD and J.Y. Jeong, MD, The Surgeons’ Tables brings clinical reasoning and surgical experience to the health questions patients actually ask.
We do more than summarize a study or repeat a guideline. We explain what the evidence means, what it does not mean, where uncertainty remains, and what questions often come next when real medical decisions have to be made.
From the operating table to the dinner table.
Surgeon-level medical reasoning, explained in language people can actually use.
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Our Clinical Background
Two surgeons. Two specialties. One shared approach: explain medical decisions with the context patients often do not get from a search result or a headline.
Our perspective comes from direct patient care, operative decision-making, perioperative management, and years of answering the questions that arise before and after surgery.

HOW WE WORK
Our Editorial Standard
Every article starts with a real patient question and is built around clinical evidence, practical decision-making, and the questions that usually follow the first answer.
Start With the Patient Question
We begin with the symptom, decision, or uncertainty patients are actually trying to understand.
Verify the Evidence
We review current clinical guidelines, major studies, systematic reviews, and relevant regulatory guidance before publication.
Ask the Next Clinical Question
The first answer is rarely the whole answer. We examine the second- and third-order questions that can change real clinical decisions.
Separate Evidence From Hype
We distinguish what is established, what remains uncertain, and what has been overstated in headlines, social media, or marketing.
Authorship, updates, and corrections
The physician named in each article’s byline is its author. Articles are developed with AI assistance for research organization, drafting, and revision. Mi Jin Kim, MD, performs the final medical review and approves each article before publication. Authorship and final review are distinct roles; we do not imply that both editors independently review every article.
“Evidence reviewed through” identifies the date through which the medical evidence was checked. “Updated” identifies an article revision; it should not be interpreted as a new evidence review unless the evidence-review date also changes.
AI tools assist our editorial process but do not replace physician judgment or verification of original sources. Responsibility for the final medical review and publication approval remains with Mi Jin Kim, MD.
Images and illustrations
Explanatory images and illustrations accompanying our articles are created with AI for educational purposes. They are not photographs of actual patients, clinical records, or diagnostic images and should not be used for diagnosis. The photographs of our two editors on this About page are genuine photographs, not AI-generated portraits.
